Shelly Rudolph at Tony Starlight’s - August 2nd, 8-11 PM
This weekend will mark one month since JazzPDX.org officially launched.
Since it’s beginning, we’ve had 25 posts on a wide variety of topics and musicians - from Portlanders like Greg Goebel and Go By Train to traveling artists like Terence Blanchard and Sonny Rollins. We were also pleased to have Dave Frishberg join us as the first featured musician. These posts, combined with our calendar that has already listed hundreds of events, brought in over 1000 page views, from Portland and around the world.
In the coming weeks, keep an eye out for new features, such updated venue listings, calendars, musicians listings, and a dashboard widget to keep mac-based JazzPDX fans up-to-date. We’ll also have a new featured artist coming soon.
In the mean time, keep checking the site for new posts feel free to comment! If you’re a musician or represent a club, please send your announcements to submit@jazzpdx.org
Thanks for visiting!

The Matt Weiers Trio (Weiers, pn; Bill Athens, bs; Drew Shoals, d) just released their debut cd, "Spectral." It contains Matt’s original tunes like "Dim Vistas," "Reforming," and "Royal Jelly," which are reminiscent of the pianism of Geri Allen, Andrew Hill, or early Chick Corea in their steady rhythmic drive and unique harmonies. Jim Pepper, the native American saxophonist born in Oregon, is one of the most famous jazz musicians to come out of Portland. In May, the OPB art show Art Beat did a feature on him, and the Jim Pepper Remembrance Band. The video features clips of other Portland musicians like Glen Moore, Renato Caranto, Carlton Jackson, Gordon Lee, Ron Steen, David Friesen, etc. playing Pepper’s music, as well as stock footage of Pepper himself. Below, you can watch the feature via youtube. |

Drummer Micah Kassell and guitarist Scott Pemberton will be teaming up every Thursday at Blitz Bar in Northwest Portland. Their trio will feature a different guest each week to (according to Kassell) “explore the goofier side of things.”
