Lynn Darroch presents his unique performance concept - “jazz stories.” Darroch invites some of Portland’s top musicians (in this case, Randy Porter - piano, Dave Evans - saxophone, Alfredo Muro - guitar)to play behind him as he tells the audience stories about jazz - history, anecdotes, legend, and more. In this concert, he’ll be focusing on “local heroes and American originals.” This means:
New stories about the legend of Jim Pepper, the life of Betty Carter and the death of Chet Baker; how Glen Moore met William Faulkner’s widow and Warren Bracken traded glory for peace in Portland; lessons from George Page and Clare Fischer about standing up and losing; and one woman confronts the crows of autumn.
Plus – Latin Interlude: Darroch’s new Stories of the Latin World with Alfredo Muro (guitar), including tales of the birth of Bossa Nova, the streets of Peru, and tangos and lost love in Buenos Aires.
You can listen to samples and learn more about the project at Darroch’s website.
The performance is December 5th at The Cave. $5 cover - music begins at 8 PM.
