The Portland-based music education center Cadenza Academy is bringing New York guitarist Ben Monder to town this week for a series of concerts, lessons, and masterclasses. Monder is a top-call player in NY and all over the world, playing with the likes of Maria Schneider, Lee Konitz, and Paul Motion. He appears on over 90 CDs as a sideman and a leader and maintains a busy performance schedule.
In Portland, you can catch Monder this Thursday (10/16) at Vindalho (2038 SE Clinton) where he’ll be performing duo with Tom Wakeling on bass. The music starts at 9 PM and there’s no cover charge. Reservations are recommended. Visit www.vindalho.com for more information.
Then, on Saturday, Monder will be appearing at the Hawthorne Theatre (1507 SE 39th) with a trio featuring drummer Randy Rollofson and bassist Tylor Abbot. Also on the bill is the Mike Pardew trio with Dave Captein on bass and Micah Kassell on drums. The concert starts at noon and has a $10 ticket price. For the musicians out there, Monder will be teaching a masterclass starting at 10 AM at the theatre. $50 gets you admission to both the masterclass and the performance.
As mentioned before, these events are hosted by Cadenza Academy. E-mail cadenzaacademy@gmail.com or call 503-963-9600 for tickets or more information.
